La Trobe

Modern Restaurant

DESCRIPTION:

La Trobe is an Australian casual dining restaurant located at Cipete, South Jakarta. The objective is to bring a sense of Australian all-day breakfast to the area.

DESIGN ELABORATION:

The business objective is to create a sense of exclusiveness and a homey ambience in the restaurant, bringing more casuality while the visitors are having their breakfasts.

APPROACH :

La Trobe's pre-existing building was an abandoned house located in the middle of the Cipete district, which is filled with other casual restaurants. We demolished many walls that were used to separate bedrooms and main rooms, thus preserving the columns to retain the structures. The design was then separated into two areas, the kitchen and the serving areas, which were also divided into non-smoking rooms, smoking rooms, VIP rooms, and outdoor spaces. The whole interior design is developed using the existing grids from the preserved columns, while the facade is heavily influenced by the reflection of water. The reflection facade also reflects on the front and back landscape, creating organic movements towards the rigid old house.

CHALLENGES

The challenge in this project is to incorporate the organic lines of reflections into the facade and to create a seamless connection to the landscapes.

PROJECT RESOLVE

The facade is crafted by having three-dimensional curves to mimic the reflection of water. To create a seamless connection, the area is constructed along the curves X-axis, resulting in another reflection of the facade in the front landscape.
