Cafe and Streetfood
DESCRIPTION:
Using inexpensive materials that were readily available on the property and pre-existing buildings, this cafe is designed with a tropical industrial vibe.
DESIGN ELABORATION:
APPROACH :
The design is first approached in 2D. The design team created an imaginary grid to connect the existing structures as the main design language. By having the concise design language, the design then developed further with the most efficient circulation that connects the landscape and the architecture.
The design then imitated stone-like structures because the project was situated in Batu, which translates to 'stone' in English, in an effort to achieve industrialism. Most of the finishing was intentionally left out raw, with the secondary facade looking like stacking cracked stones.

CHALLENGES
The challenge of the design is to retain the existing structures to accommodate the new design. With the limited spaces, some of the old columns had to be removed in order to create bigger rooms for each program in the cafe. We also had to re-create and measure new beams, as the client asked for another storey for rooftop seating.
PROJECT RESOLVE
With our civil engineer's assistance, we had to continuously reevaluate and measure the solidity of the columns to make room for the additional storey. After that, new columns and beams are made to support it, and we may apply all of the design languages to the building.
